As you walk along Corona Avenue, Queens, New York, you will see the famous Lemon Ice King. On 104th Street, near Roosevelt Avenue, you will find Leo’s Latticini Mama’s Deli serving delicious Italian sandwiches and pastries. And where do you see a Greek orthodox church, a Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall, and a Muslim mosque next to each other? Of course, Corona.

Corona after Dark is a production exploring venues that cater to alcohol misuse and impaired driving, migration, food vendors, overcrowded housing, healthcare, trauma, domestic violence, abuse, separation from families, music, dance, culture, mental health and the untold stories that make up the fabric of Corona, Queens, New York.

Jose Virgilio Jimenez, (1924-2001), was a civil engineer, agronomist, land surveyor, and entrepreneur. Born in Loiza, Puerto Rico, Jose V. Jimenez began his legacy in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico where he earned engineering degrees in civil and agricultural engineering at the College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts. In Puerto Rico, Jose V. Jimenez was involved in the design and construction of new roads and culverts such as the 65 Infantry, Arroyo Road, Maricao Road, and Lares-Bartolo Road. As the former president of Modular Technics Corporation, Jose V. Jimenez initially built housing units under the auspices of the Spanish Grocers Associations. KG Industries, which Jose V. Jimenez founded, built bonded work for City, State, and Federal Governments. In 1972, the Hispanic International Research Institute inducted Jose V. Jimenez into the Hall of Fame as “Engineer of the Year” and in 1974, the New York City Civil Service named Jose V. Jimenez “Engineer of the Year”. Jose V. Jimenez, deceased in 2001 and is buried in the Dominican Republic.
